GLAUCOMA

SILENT SIGHT LOSS

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve of the eye. The optic nerve is the cable that connects the eye to the brain.

HOW IS GLAUCOMA TREATED?

Glaucoma affects approximately 2-3% of the population yet we still completely understand how or why the disease occurs. The danger of glaucoma is that there may be no symptoms or warning signs that you have it in the early stages. By the time you notice the damage, the vision loss is not reversible. The risk factors for glaucoma include high eye pressure, genetic predisposition to glaucoma including a family history, race, thin corneas, age, steroid use, and multiple eye surgeries. While most of these factors are not in our control, we can lower the risk and progression rate of glaucoma by reducing the eye pressure. This can be done with drops, laser or surgery.

At CC Vision Care, we can evaluate your glaucoma and discuss a customized treatment plan.
